1. Riverside Ramble and Refreshments at Culm Valley Inn, Culmstock, Devon:

Just a 15 minute drive from Woodlands Holiday Cottage and Wagtails Dog Friendly Cottage lies the beautiful village of Culmstock. A must-visit for dog walkers is the area is the scenic walk from Culmstock along the river - to make it longer walk start from nearby Uffculme (free parking at the village hall) and walk along the river to Culmstock stopping at either The Strand deli or the Culm Valley Inn for lunch or tea and cake.

  • The Walk: The river meanders through open countryside then through Hunkin Woods with its granite gateway and poetry. There are lots of spots to enjoy a splash in the water and at Culmstock itself there is a beach area where kids and adults can get in for a swim.

  • Dog-Friendly Bonus: Both the Culm Inn and The Strand are dog-friendly, offering a warm welcome to muddy paws and their owners. Enjoy a well-deserved drink or bite to eat in the beer gardens or take a picnic down to the water side and let your dog paddle in the water.

2. Sandy Strolls and Seaside Fun at Dunster Beach, Somerset:

In Somerset, Dunster Beach provides a different but equally delightful waterside experience. This long stretch of sand and shingle is perfect for leisurely strolls and energetic games of fetch.

  • The Walk: Enjoy miles of relatively flat walking along the beach. At low tide, there's plenty of space for your dog to run freely and chase the waves. The iconic Dunster Castle provides a stunning backdrop to your seaside adventure.

  • Dog-Friendly Bonus: Many of the beachside cafes and establishments in the Dunster area welcome well-behaved dogs, making it easy to grab a coffee or ice cream after your walk. Remember to keep your dog on a lead when near other beachgoers and be mindful of any wildlife.

3. Netherclay Community Woodland (near Taunton):

Beyond the river, the woodland offers a diverse environment for exploration. There's a shorter circular walk around a planted tree area, or longer walks for those seeking a more extended adventure. Be aware that some paths can get muddy, especially in winter.
